Dutch people have a soft spot for sweets: there is a big range of traditional Dutch sweet candies such as Hopjes (coffee-flavored hard candy), butterscotch, cinnamon sticks and peppermint. The famous Delftware or Delft pottery, also known as Delft blue (in Dutch: Delfts blauw), was created in the 16th century as a cheap alternative to the blue and white Chinese porcelain that was way more expensive. The fabrics that produced Delft blue were mostly located in Delft in Holland, and that is where the name comes from! Nowadays you can find Delft Blue on mugs, plates, and even on Christmas ornaments and it makes everything look beautiful.
